How to Play Okey
Okey is easy to start and rewarding to improve. Your job is to organize your rack into valid tile combinations and finish before the other players.
Table setup
Classic Okey is played with four players. Each player has a rack for arranging tiles, and players take turns drawing and discarding.
One player starts with an extra tile and opens the hand by discarding first.
Indicator and okey tile
The revealed indicator tile determines the okey tile. Usually, the next number in the same color becomes the okey.
The okey tile is powerful because it can replace a missing tile in a valid combination.
Valid combinations
A finishing hand is made of valid tile sets:
- Runs of consecutive numbers in the same color
- Groups of the same number in different colors
- Pairs when playing a pairs hand
Finishing the hand
When all your tiles form valid combinations, you discard the final extra tile to finish.
Good Okey play also means watching what others discard so you do not feed the tiles they need.
