Hitting in Backgammon
Landing on an opponent’s lone checker hits it. Hitting is one of the strongest forms of pressure in backgammon.
How hitting works
If you move onto a point with a single opponent checker (a blot), you hit it. The hit checker goes to the bar.
While a checker is on the bar, its owner cannot make any other move until it re-enters.
Re-entering from the bar
A player on the bar must enter from the opponent’s home board according to the dice. If entry is impossible, the turn passes.
This is why avoiding blots and building points in your home board matters so much.
